SUMMARY OF ACTIVITIES FROM JANUARY 1998 TO MAY 1999
May 20, 1999 The '99 Shenzhen Small Electrical Machinery and Parts Fair is held under the auspices of the China (Shenzhen) Weite Electrical Machinery Center, sponsored by President Simon Kai Bin Shi and jointly conducted by the Innovative Science and Technology (Hong Kong) Center and by the Association.
Also on the same day, the seminar, Small Electrical Machinery Advanced Science and Technology in Three Lands along the Straits is held. May 15-18, 1999 The Association sends over 48 investigators to seek the collective opinion of the people regarding the entry of 1.67M new immigrants to Hong Kong. May 5, 1999 Representatives from the Chiyu Banking Corporation Ltd. are invited to talk on the HK$2.5B loan policy for small and medium-scale enterprises. Representatives from the Labour Department discuss how these enterprises can advertise free-of-charge. April 26, 1999 The seminar Public Relations Strategy in Economic Adversity is held under the auspices of the Hong Kong Economic Daily News, and jointly conducted by the Chinese Youth Entrepreneur Association, Hong Kong Public Relations Professional Personnel Association, Small and Medium Enterprises Center, Small and Medium Enterprises Federation and the Association. April 14, 1999 The Association invites Yeung Kwok Wing, deputy headmaster of Science and Engineering University as well as Wong Shek Yiu and Wong Leung, general executives at the same university to lecture on how the Science and Engineering University supports economic development and cooperation; Also discussed are plans to improve the productivity and competitiveness of small and medium-scale enterprises. March 27, 1999 A special lecture, Be Rich in Adversity and Start a Cause in Crisis, is a joint effort of the Association with the Hong Kong Housing Authority and Housing Department held at the Bazaar of Yokfu Centre free-of-charge March 25, 1999 Meeting with the Hong Kong Trade Development Council to discuss exhibitors’ intellectual property rights protection during the Hong Kong Gift and Houseware Show, '99 Hong Kong Premiums Show. March 18, 1999 The seminar, Handan Municipal Enterprises Reform is held under the auspices of Hebei Provincial Government and Handan Municipal Government, undertaken by the Hong Kong Wenhui Newspaper, and jointly conducted by the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Association, Hong Kong Chinese General Chamber of Commerce, the Chinese Manufacturers Association of Hong Kong and the Association, at the Furama Hotel Hong Kong. March 17-18, 1999 The intellectual property rights team organizes the Guangzhou Toy Show Intellectual Property Rights Protection Investigative Group. March 17, 1999 Hong Kong Film Director Association invites the Association to the Attack Copyright Infringement Parade. March 16-18, 1999 The seminar New Era of Administration is held under the auspices of Hong Kong Economic Daily News and Hong Kong City University, jointly conducted by Industrial and Commercial Administration Research Institute, Small and Medium Enterprises Center, Hong Kong Public Relations Professional Personnel Association, Small and Medium Enterprises Federation and the Association. March 11, 1999 The seminar How to Use the Laws of Intellectual Property Rights to Protect Small and Medium Enterprises is jointly conducted by the Intellectual Property Rights Department with the Association. March 8-25, 1999 The Finance Course for Administrative Personnel is held under the auspices of the Hong Kong Economic Daily News and Hong Kong City University, jointly conducted by Industrial and Commercial Administration Research Institute, Chinese Young Entrepreneur Association, Small and Medium Enterprises Federation and by the Association. January 26, 1999 With the assistance of the Delta Asia Credit Limited, the Association holds the Loan Plan for Small and Medium Enterprises lecture, which details the design of a special loan plan for members. January 11-14, 1999 The Association's law consultant Liu K.F. Allan, together with members of the intellectual property rights team take legal action against suspected copyright infringers. January 11, 1999 A petition rally is held outside the '99 Hong Kong Toy Show premises to urge the government to deal with the protection of intellectual property rights and to prevent copyright infringement activities. January 4, 1999 President Simon Kai Biu Shi and vice president Chan Shu Ho join the Legislative Committee and Trade and Industry Affairs Committee to discuss loan applications by small and mid-size enterprises. December 4, 1998 Committee members are invited to a discussion on foreign enterprises applying for loan in mainland China by the Guangdong Province Development Bank. November 18-21, 1998 Ten Associations Beijing Visit Group is organized by the Hong Kong Corrugated Paper Manufacturers Association Ltd., Hong Kong Metals Manufacturers Association, Hong Kong Innovative Science and Technology Association, Hong Kong Wong Tai Sin Industry and Commerce Association, Hong Kong Tsuen Wan Industries and Commerce Association Ltd., Hong Kong CAD/CAM Association, Hong Kong Junior Chamber, Hong Kong You Dai Vehicles General Association, International Distinguished Citizens Society of Hong Kong and Macau, and by the Association.

August 20, 1998 A seminar on Computer Network & Commercial Use of the Internet is held under the auspices of the Hong Kong Economic Daily News. This is jointly conducted by the Chinese Manufacturers Association of Hong Kong, Science and Technology Center, Small and Medium Enterprises Center, Hong Kong Small and Medium Enterprises Federation and the Association. July 12, 1998 At the anniversary celebration of Hong Kong's Return to the Motherland, President Simon Kai Biu Shi gives a speech regarding cultural cooperation and exchange between Hong Kong and the mainland. July 6, 1998 The China Wenling 98’ (Hong Kong) Trade Fair organized by Chan Chun Fat, association chairman May 25, 1998 Meeting between Tung Chee Hwa, the Chief Executive of the SAR and President Simon Kai Biu Shi. May 13-15, 1998 The Seven Associations Guangdong Visit Group was set up and included the Association, along with the Hong Kong Tsuen Wan Industries and Commerce Association Ltd., Hong Kong Metals Manufacturers Association, Hong Kong Corrugated Paper Manufacturers Association Ltd., Hong Kong Wong Tai Sin Industry and Commerce Association, Hong Kong Shatin Industry and Commerce Association Ltd. and Eastern District Industries and Commerce Association. Under the assistance and arrangement of the Xinhua News Agency and United Front Work Department of the CPC Central Committee, the visiting group met with government leaders from Guangdong, Dongguan and Shenzhen, and the department officials from Customs, Taxation and Foreign Economic and Trade. The Association, along with the Hong Kong Metals Manufacturers Association and the Hong Kong Corrugated Paper Manufacturers Association Ltd. invited Shenzhen Branch of Beijing Qinghua University Research Institute to study issues on customs declaration for processing materials from customers The Association, together with the Hong Kong Corrugated Paper Manufacturers Association Ltd. and the Hong Kong Tsuen Wan Industries and Commerce Association Ltd. organized the "Hong Kong Three Associations; The Shantou visit group met with the Shantou municipal government |
